John Howland joined the air-staff of Empire Broadcasting in 2012 after graduating top of his class at the New School of Radio and Television. John’s passion for radio started at Drew University where he served as General Manager and on-air DJ for WMNJ 88.9fm during the 1990s – the era of grunge, alternative, and fusion rock. Under his leadership, WMNJ was picked by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the top 10 college radio stations in 1997. With degrees in archaeology, urban planning, and historic preservation, John’s career took a different direction, although he always vowed to return to the airwaves. Over the years, John has studied historic preservation in Russia, participated in archaeological excavations in Ecuador, and won three medals in fencing. John also enjoys traveling and admits he is a bit of a science-geek.
John lives in Albany with his chocolate lab and spends his free time restoring his house and teaching himself the accordion.
